$ 65,000 (£15,880-4-2) expenses. No sum provided in the Estimates of 1885 for Construction working for the Mint.
The expenditure of 1886 was $937,803, of which about $144,000 was on account of the Mint. Deducting mint charges from both years' totals, there is an apparent increase of expenditure of $19,000 (£4,057.5.10), but this increase is caused by the quarterly payments for Military Contribution being made in 1886, whereas they were made in 1885.
It will thus be seen that the ordinary current Revenues and Expenditure have been about the same during the year as they were during the preceding years.
The Excess of Assets over Liabilities at 31st December last would have been almost exactly that shown on the first page of the current year's Estimates if the anticipated receipts from Land Sales had been realised.
In the above figures, the conversions of Dollars into Sterling have been made at 4/3¼ per dollar, which is the average rate at which the remittances to the Crown Agents have been made during the year.
